ASSESSMENT Overview.
I utilize psychological assessments to assist with identifying and/or clarifying diagnoses, treatment planning, and to help you better understand your symptoms and yourself. Specifically, I offer psychodiagnostic testing for individuals facing new or exacerbated mental health symptoms, including severe mental illness; in-depth assessments for Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); and career assessment and career counseling.
In my assessments, I work to identify your areas of strength, as well as target areas for growth, and I provide evidence-based treatment recommendations to guide your care. If needed, I will work with your treatment team (e.g., psychiatrist, therapist, other health providers) to provide collaborative care to ensure you get access to the most appropriate care. To learn more about the testing process, including answers to commonly asked questions, read on below. You may also contact me for a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your interest in an assessment.
ASSESSMENT FAQs.
I AM INTERESTED IN A PSYCHODIAGNOSTIC EVALUATION. WHAT DO YOU TEST FOR AND WHAT IS THE TESTING PROCESS LIKE?
I offer psychological evaluations for mood, anxiety, personality, and other disorders. I also provide ADHD testing for adults (see next FAQ for more info on ADHD testing). Perhaps you are experiencing a variety of symptoms and are having difficulty making sense of them, or maybe you are hoping to confirm a previous diagnosis and update your treatment plan. My evaluation will provide clarity of your diagnoses and a solid treatment plan to guide treatment.
Regarding what the testing process looks like, you and I will meet virtually to discuss your symptoms and personal history (3 hours). Before we meet, you will complete a set of online questionnaires about your symptoms (1-3 hours). I will review the results between our meetings, and we will then meet virtually to discuss the results and review treatment recommendations (1 hour). In total, a psychological evaluation may take between 5-7+ hours of your time. Very rarely, the results may indicate a need for additional testing, though we will discuss this first before we proceed with further testing.
I also provide a written report that is typically available within 2 weeks of our last meeting. This report is in addition to the cost of the time we meet, and the cost is dependent on length of the report. In total, an assessment with a written report averages around $3600+.
WHAT DOES AN ADHD EVALUATION INCLUDE?
The process for an ADHD evaluation includes an initial session during which I gather information about your symptoms and your background (3 hours). I will ask questions about your difficulties with attention and how these challenges have impacted your life. I will also have you complete a number of questionnaires to gather additional information prior to our first meeting (1-3 hours). I will also obtain information from someone close to you that is familiar with your symptoms through an online assessment and I may follow-up by video or phone for additional information if needed. On occasion, I may conduct additional tests that measure intelligence (IQ), attention, executive functioning, learning, and memory, though these are not always necessary for an ADHD diagnosis. In our final session, we will review your results together, including relevant diagnoses (if any), and recommendations to guide treatment (1 hour). The average cost of the assessment and feedback sessions without a written report is around $1800.
If needed or desired, I can also provide an in-depth written report of the assessment results that can be given to your treatment providers (e.g., psychiatrists, therapists) with your consent. Some providers require this report to provide you with treatment, including stimulant medications. The cost of a report is on average $1800, which is in addition to the cost of the time we meet for testing. If neuropsychological testing is completed, the cost of the report will be greater. In total, an ADHD assessment with a written report averages around $3600+. Please note, I also provide evidence-based skills training for improving executive functioning / ADHD coaching for individuals diagnosed with ADHD.
HOW do you assess for autism spectrum disorder?
I provide assessments for individuals who believe they may have ASD. An assessment for ASD requires a detailed interview about your history and your symptoms from childhood to adulthood. I will ask you questions about: how you perceive the world, yourself, and others; how you get along with other people; your interests and activities; and other questions which will give us insight into your personality and daily functioning.
This first assessment takes approximately 4 hours. An assessment for ASD also includes interviewing someone who is close to you that knows your personality well, such as a family member or a partner, and this takes between 1-2 hours. We then meet after all assessments have been conducted to discuss the results of your testing (1 hour). The cost of the assessment and feedback sessions typically costs between $2450-2800. I can also provide a written report outlining the results of testing and treatment recommendations based on your results. The additional cost of the report is on average $2100, bringing the total cost of an assessment with a written report to $4550-4900.
WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER FOR CAREER COUNSELING?
As a Counseling Psychologist, I am trained in and specialize in career assessments and career counseling. The development of your career is a lifelong process that may change many times. These changes may be caused by occupational dissatisfaction, a desire to try something new, or the result of life changes such as a move, parenthood, or other factors that require you to pivot. I offer a variety of career assessments, including the Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), and the NEO Personality Inventory-3 (NEO-PI-3).
