Evaluation for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
AssessmentS for AUTISM
I provide adult Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for individuals living in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout California. While I provide testing for all genders and individuals ages 18+, I specialize in working with women as autism is often overlooked in this group due to its unique presentation in women, as well as individuals whose diagnosis may have been missed and are seeking testing later in life.
A thorough assessment for autism requires a bit of a time commitment to ensure an accurate diagnosis. The first part of the assessment takes approximately 3 hours. During this portion of the assessment, I will conduct a detailed interview about your history and your symptoms from childhood to adulthood. I will ask you questions about: how you perceive the world, yourself, and others; how you get along with other people; your interests and activities; and other questions which will give us insight into your personality and daily functioning.
An assessment for autism also includes interviewing someone who is close to you that knows your personality and behavior well, such as a family member, partner, or friend. With your permission, I will conduct a briefer interview (1 hour) with them to get their perspective on your personality, behaviors, strengths, and challenges.
I then review the all of the information gathered and determine whether or not you meet criteria for ASD and/or other diagnoses (4 hours). We then meet to discuss the results of your testing and treatment recommendations that may help to support you (1 hour). I will also provide you with a brief, informal patient-facing summary of the results. The cost of a typical assessment and feedback session costs $3200.
If needed, I can provide a written report outlining the results of testing and treatment recommendations based on your results, which is an additional cost to testing. The cost of a written report is typically $6400. Please note that on occasion additional hours may be required to confirm or exclude a diagnoses (e.g., extensive chart reviews, additional contacts with providers or family members, additional testing). The need for additional testing/information gathering and the expected cost will always be made known before proceeding.
I also offer therapy for individuals with Autism. I often work with those that want to better understand their experiences, improve their ability to manage their emotions, and to feel more connected to others. I am trained in both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), therapies that both demonstrate strong evidence for helping individuals with Autism address the issues above and more.
