ADHD ASSESSMENT

ADHD TESTING FAQS

Are you struggling to pay attention at school, work, home, or all of the above? Does it take you longer than others to learn something or do you forget things altogether? Do you feel paralyzed when faced with having to organize and/or prioritize everything you have to get done in your life, with no idea where to start? If you answered β€˜yes’ to most of these questions, you may have ADHD! An assessment for ADHD may help you get answers you are looking for. Contact me for a free 15 minute consult to determine if ADHD testing is right for you.

The process for an ADHD evaluation includes an initial session during which I gather information about your symptoms and your background (3 hours). I will ask questions about your difficulties with attention, memory, and learning throughout your life, and how these challenges have impacted your functioning. Before we meet, you will complete a series of questionnaires that will provide me with additional information about your experiences (this usually takes about an hour or less of your time). I will also obtain information from someone close to you that is familiar with your symptoms. After I have reviewed and interpreted all of your responses (4 hours), I will determine your diagnosis/diagnoses and we will review your results and your personalized treatment plan together (1 hour). You will receive a brief, informal 5-6 page patient facing summary of your results at the end of the testing process. The average cost of the assessment and feedback sessions is on average $3200.

On occasion, I may conduct or you may request additional tests that measure intelligence (IQ), executive functioning, and more, though these are often not necessary for an ADHD diagnosis and incur an additional cost. In fact, it is no longer the gold standard in assessment to complete neuropsychological or psychoeducational tests as part of ADHD testing, unless you need this kind of testing for something more strict, like accommodations for a high-stakes exam (e.g., the Bar, LSAT, GRE).

If needed or desired, I can provide an in-depth written formal report of the assessment results that can be given to your treatment providers (e.g., psychiatrists, therapists, schools) with your consent. Some providers require this report to provide you treatment, including stimulant medications for ADHD. The cost of a report is on average $3200, which is in addition to the cost of the time we meet for testing outlined above. In total, an ADHD assessment with a written report averages around $6000. If neuropsychological or psychoeductional testing is completed, the cost of the report will be greater.

Please note, I also provide evidence-based skills training for improving executive functioning and/or coaching for individuals diagnosed with ADHD.
